Grow Your Gardening Knowledge

University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service agent Casey Matney will teach a series of 11 gardening webinars to help you get your garden ready for the upcoming growing season.

The free classes will be held online via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, from March 19 to May 28. Topics include seed starting, soil testing, using raised beds, planting potatoes, hardening off and transplanting seedlings, and composting. Can’t make the class when it’s live? Pre Register and you will be sent a link to watch the video later.

Celebrating Native Seeds

Experience the groundbreaking documentary "Native Seeds: Supplying Restoration" at a special screening event hosted by the Alaska Native Plant Society. This compelling film explores the crucial efforts to develop a native seed supply chain in the United States, showcasing the inspiring stories of seed collectors, farmers, researchers, and land managers dedicated to restoring damaged ecosystems in the western United States.

5:30 pm - Doors open: Enjoy refreshments, free handouts, and receive door prize tickets.

6:00 pm - Welcome from hosts and introductory remarks from BLM Alaska botanist.

6:15 pm - Screening of the 60-minute documentary film.

7:15-7:30 pm - Engage in a post-film discussion and participate in door prize announcements.

Beginning Seed Saving (Homer Public Library) and ZOOM

Saskia Esslinger, the founder of the Homer Seed Library, and past CPGC presenter, is offering a series of workshops on seed saving.
